There are robots everywhere. I mean it. In every industry people are trying to get robots to do more things. Obviously one of the biggest things would be the development of AI. Getting robots to learn and expand their knowledge, when will they reach human level intelligence? No one knows. And according to Stephen Hawking, don't believe anyone who tells you they do either; "When it eventually does occur, it’s likely to be either the best or worst thing ever to happen to humanity, so there’s huge value in getting it right" is the advice of the world-renowned scientist.
Recently, the developments our machine counterparts have been making are pretty notable. Researchers in Wuhan, China have developed a robot that can change colour like a chameleon. Just watch!
Just this week, they've been giving golf pros some competition. LDRIC (Launch Directional Robot Intelligent Circuitry),the brainchild of pro golfer Gary McCord and built by Golf Laboratories, dropped a hole-in-one at the 16th hold of the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona. Yes, that is the same one Tiger Woods famously it back in 1997, and Italian Francesco Molinari did as well, just last month. Of course, LDRIC is not perfect. It took the golf-bot 5 tries to successfully make that shot Wednesday, but place LDRIC and a human in a thunderstorm and ask them to play golf? LDRIC would probably come out on top.
In terms of intelligence, Google's AI program recently defeated the European Go champion Fan Hui. For a $1M prize, DeepMind will be playing a 5-game challenge match with the current world champion. Lee Sedol from South Korea will be playing DeepMind's "AlphaGo" program and is confident that he will be victorious. The matches will run from March 9-15, Google's Hassabis will provide more details of the Youtube livestream soon. Don't hold your breath, some matches can last for hours.
