As technology advances, the talk of robots and machines taking over jobs continues to grow. Autonomy in various industries is taking the spotlight, and providing us with newer solutions to old processes. Increasing productivity, maximizing efficiency, saving energy, and reducing costs are all benefits from implementing autonomy into various industries. Our world will change drastically in the near future due to the development of this technology; its applications into so many areas that directly affect our day to day lives.
Autonomous cars are one of the most popular topics, and rightfully so. Transportation is a crucial part of our everyday lives, travelling to and from destinations will almost always require a method other than walking. Autonomous vehicles, either personal or public transit, will eventually see the effects of artificial intelligence and autonomy working to provide an effortless commute.
A great example of this assistance technology is EyeSight developed by Subaru. EyeSight monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, and warns you if you sway outside your lane. The Pre-Collision Braking feature can even apply full braking force in emergency situations, helping you avoid or reduce frontal impacts. Another example is Tesla's autopilot, where it uses a variety of cameras to monitor and process the information taken in by the cameras in every Tesla vehicle.
The aging community will definitely benefit from these developments. Since the baby boomers are now entering the stages of retirement and elderly, there will be an increasing need for assisted transportation. Though self-driving cars are still in development and not yet available for public use since there is still much testing to be done, there are already small implementations in cars already that will assist with tasks like emergency braking and autopilot etc.
